Pilothouse

William "Bill" Wright (vocals, flute, whistles)
  Christian Snook (piano, guitar, bass)

The Pilothouse story starts in a small town in Iowa.  William Wright and Chris Snook went to the same schools but didn't take notice of each other until their mothers started discussing their mutual love of music and arranged a get together in August 1982.  They played their first gig together at a local contest in Knoxville, Iowa where they won 2nd place.

William Charles "Bill" Wright (vocals, flute, whistles) was born in Iowa, he grew up on a farm with four siblings and loving parents. Having a close-knit family and spending a good deal of time with nature would become the two most formative aspects of his young life. He sang constantly as a child, much to the chagrin of his only older sibling, Scott. When he was ten years old he was offered his first two gigs on the same day. His music teacher asked him to play the lead in an elementary school musical and his church choir director asked him to solo at church. Many school and church solo vocal performances would follow. When he was twelve he met Chris Snook, already well known for his instrumental versatility and gift for original composition, and the two became best friends. Most of Bill's performances for the next six years would involve Chris, as they became known in their high school as "the music guys". Chris and Bill created and performed original "farewell" pieces for each of their graduating classes. Chris and Bill didn't attend the same colleges and kept only occasional contact during those years. Bill studied sociology and received his BA from the University of Iowa. While he worked several dead-end jobs, he and Chris continued to write new songs while Bill tried his hand (literally) at puppeteering in his free time. Bill began working for a midwestern software company in what would become his longest and most successful stint working for someone else. After serving that company in a management capacity, he left to start his own businesses. Currently, Bill mostly writes for a living, publishing and/or performing his own material. He still resides in Iowa. Bill's always had an interest in philosophy, science, myth, and religion, and these are the subjects he spends most of his time thinking about. He loves to take nature hikes and watch DVDs. And, of course, he enjoys making music with is 'ol buddy Chris.

Christian Scott Snook (piano, guitar, bass) was born and raised in Iowa.

Chris' first experience with music was in elementary band, where he started on trumpet but quickly switched to trombone.  His band director was his first musical mentor, exposing Chris to both classical and jazz.

After discovering rock music, Chris' interests changed to piano and guitar.  This also influenced Chris' trombone playing, earning the "Fuzzy Note Award" in high school marching band.

In college, Chris started off majoring in Music Theory, but later switched to Business Administration in hopes of entering the music business.  Although he did eventually get his degree in Business, he got a second degree in Computer Programming. Today he uses his knowledge of computers and electronics to help Pilothouse make music, as well as this page you're reading. Although Pilothouse typically performs as a duo with backing tracks, all the backing tracks are real performances by Chris.

Chris now lives in a vat of boiling acid.
